Photographers do like to bang on about kit and indeed there is more than a little snobbery in the photography world about this or that brand and which are the best and usually the most expensive optics, but I just love my gear for the impressive results it never fails to provide and the joy that gives me..! Okay, so I do use cameras and lenses from the two leading brands, but there's the thing, I don't think one is necessarily 'better' than the other, I do however know for a fact that both brands hit the nail on the head for me in the specialist areas I service and that's the thing that counts...
– I favour high-end Nikon and Canon cropped sensor Cameras and lenses for distance AND macro shots and when working with wider variables I go Full Frame...
My 2 Favourite Cameras & Lenses
Out of my collection of gear which includes the wonderful D4 there are certain pieces of kit that I often turn to more than others:
From Nikon I absolutely swear by the D500 combined with the Nikon AF-S 105mm f/2.8 VR Micro-NIKKOR which is amazing for any kind of close work from macro up to portrait and even doubles up as a general-purpose tele capable of covering certain distance shots be they sport or animals for which the camera has a super fast frame rate and the lens is incredibly sharp with nice smooth bokeh.
With Canon I love the wide to standard capabilities of the full frame 6D teamed with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L which again is something of a do-it-all pairing in any situation apart from macro and tele and the bokeh you get with the 1.2 is truly stunning..!
Of course I'll utilise my 300mm f2.8 Nikkor for hardcore wildlife work and in other situations I might zoom with my Canon 24-70 f4 but generally speaking it is these two sets of kit that sit ready to go in my main bag and I wouldn't have it any other way :)
